India: A mother of ancient culture. A collision of extremes. A sharp contrast of sweet incense, putrid sewers, vibrant rainbow saris, loud temple chants sounds, and collage of powerful beauty against incredible poverty.
We arrived in Pushkar, and worked with multiple families. One from Kashmir escaping political unrest, another family that has been making stunningly ornate bags for generations, and one more small family that utilized antique saris to make clothing and purses.
Lastly we do ongoing work with a lovely young woman in Jaipur, who provides us the unique 22k gold nose rings and other various traditional jewelry. The NPO we endorse, Made By Survivors, is located in India and the USA. Their mission is rescueing women out of the sex trade, rehabilitate them, and teach them a skill.
